Guys, this is a thing I’ve waited a long time

But first: Hello everyone!

Women love shoes and shoes love women – that’s in the nature of things, it’s an unwritten law.
Often I have the problem that I have to work during the day as a teacher, wherefore high heels are pretty out of place (to loud, to fancy, to provocative), and having an after-work-dinner with friends.  Therefore I put on honest ballerinas: They don’t make that tick-tick-tick-sound while walking through the classroom, they look proper during day and in the evening, they don’t ruin an outfit, but they aren’t inventive. Most of them are boring. Ladies, now I came across a really cool accessory named shoelery.
This name contains those to words women love the most: shoes and jewelry. Is there anything that could top that?
Those sweet little pieces have on their back a little clip. So now, when I leave the school I pull them out of my bag, clip them in the back of your shoe or on top of the sole and your shoe looks ready to party.
In Zurich you’ll find them at Jelmoli. An other convincing detail about this kind of jewelry is their price: 60.- CHF/piece (contains 2 clips, naturally). That’s not much, if you think about how big the variety of shoes you own because of these clips, right?

Classy, practical and a little uninventive during the day, sparkling and fancier at night in one step thanks to shoelery. So cool!

man’s greed

Hello everyone

Today I want to share with you a very sad topic.
You probably know about the overfishing of our ocean. Therefore you may don’t consume tuna without knowing that this fish is threatened with extinction! Man is greedy. We love sushi, we want to eat sushi whenever we’d like. We love chicken, we eat chicken whenever, wherever. We don’t think about the consequences of our greed.


I HOPE you are aware of the grievances: Mass maintenance, antibiotics, agonies, a short life only to die and be served as a steak. Because mankind loves meat and is able to do it. Lions, tigers, sharks, crocodiles – they’re elegant killers, part of the nature and its ecosystem. The only killer of man and the world… It’s us: the human being homo sapiens (sapiens means science in latin… We should know BETTER, we should do better! Our name calls us a being with knowledge. If only we’d actually act as good as we are informed. 

I love animals! The safari my family and I made, the dog I pet, the documentaries I watched made me pay more attention when it comes to meat. I try to make sure where it comes from and I try to pay attention how the animal was treated before it died. I TRY, I read, I get informed… But: the meat is more expensive.

Only a few hours ago I came across a documentary starring the german actor “Hannes Jaenicke”. It was about sharks and their role in the ocean and on our plate.
Not only he revealed how many tons of sharks (10’000s!!) are fished and sold but he also focused on what that means for the world and us. Sharks are fished because the fish population can’t recover as quick as the consumer demands. The oceans are becoming empty. Sharks have to fill this gap. And their fin is a delicacy; for now only in Asia…
In Germany, France, Spain… You come across shark meat under different names. I found a list with many of the names in different languages. (http://www.visiondive.com/sites/protection/german/namen_von_hai_produkten.html)

Not only are sharks threatened to become extinct, they are the police of our oceans and if the system doesn’t work normal anymore, we not only have no more fishes, the world’s ecosystem collapses! And in the shorter term we may get seriously sick. Because of all the waste we dispose in the ocean the shark’s meat shows a high level of methylmercury – which is very toxic, 100 times worse than mercury!

This is a serious call to my dear followers to rethink their shopping behavior when it comes to meat – fish or mammal!
Mother world gave us all those precious landscapes, reefs and animals – we should try to maintain what we have, not destroy it while knowing that we’re wrecking it!

Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let your hair down!

Today’s all about beautiful, strong, shiny, healthy hair. I found an incomparable shampoo and conditioner. As you assume: It costs a lot more than the usual products. BUT, and you know I always have my budget in mind, it’s worth the price.

But first let me explain how I got to know the label of which I’m talking about:

My hair was damaged, flabby and dull. I tried a lot of shampoos, conditioners and other products I liked and of which I thought were good. First thing my hairdresser asked me was: What kind of products do you use? At that instant I knew, they weren’t the right ones for my hair at that moment. “So, what do you suggest then?”, I asked.
She got the moroccanoil shampoo and told me I should buy them. “They cost a little fortune (about 33 .- CHF a bottle), but of the high quality you don’t have to use that much every time you wash your hair”, she explained. I thought, what I often think: “Too much luxury, I find something similar, but cheaper.”
Guys… Two month later, with dull, flabby hair but a new cut, I got into the store and told my hairdresser: I’d like to buy the volume shampoo and conditioner. She smiled, because she probably knew I would come back for it.

I don’t use it every day, but that’s not even necessary anymore, because my hair and hair style look still fresh and good the day after I washed it with moroccanoil.
It’s fabulous. I swear: Once you’ve tried it, you’ll like it!

One advice: Ask your hairdresser which shampoo and conditioner your hair needs before you buy the product. I have thin, sleek, a little dry hair ends and no volume. She gave me the shampoo and conditioner “Volume”.
In the city of Zurich you can buy moroccanoil products at Manor at the Bahnhofstrasse. Of course you can get them over the internet or at your hairdressers.
And don’t forget: Don’t use as much as you would with your or any other popular product!

A New Year’s Pilates Flow

HAPPY NEW YEAR !

 

I hope you had a wonderful christmas with all your beloved ones and enjoyed a great new years party.

For this post I tried to find a good, relaxing and still challenging exercise. It took some time but last night I got the idea and I have tested it today. I think it’s a good exercise  either to relax and to calm down or as a pre- or post-cardio-session-exercise.

The following picture shows you how the different positions look like. Futher down that I give you instructions, how to perform the exercise correctly.

A pilates flow

instructions:
1:   Face down. Place your hands right next your chest.

2:   Your view wanders over the floor to the wall vis-à-vis of you. Press your hands into the  mat, push your upper body up. Chest and elbows have to stay as close as possible. Imagine there’s a pencil between your shoulder blades you have to jam. Your shoulders are relaxed and the space between them and your ears is as large as possible. Suck you bellybutton in to provide a hyperlordosis.

3:   Lift your butt to the ceiling while pushing your upper body close to your legs in order tp feel a stretch. Let your weight sink into your arms and hands. Your arms stay straight. You’re looking at your knees. Stay in that position for 10 breaths.

4:   Walk forward with your hands sto get into a normal plank position. Make sure your butt gets low enough, but by all means prevent a hyperlordosis. Pull your shoulders towards your lower back. Stay in this position for another 10 breaths too.

5:   Let your upper body sink while keeping the plank-position as if on the way down of a regular push-up. Your elbows have to stay as close to your chest while sinking back to the mat. (If you’re looking for a challenge, do 4 slow push-ups here)

How to dress for the gym

Hello everyone

Actually, I didn’t think this would be a topic to discuss. I assumed, everyone would know, how to dress to work out in a studio. But as I read this article of a big swiss news paper, NZZ (Neue Zürcher Zeitung), I realized, that this is not the case!
People, there is nothing more important than fresh, washed, nice, functional clothes at the studio. You sweat, you probably have a red head, tousled hair, you don’t wear make up… You’re not the most glamorous version of yourself. Because of that your clothes are even more important. There’s nothing more annoying than someone with sloppy clothes and a… nasty smell (that’s why I try to avoid garlic the evening before a workout).

What you should consider:

  • freshly washed clothes
  • sports bra, shirt, shorts or leggings (functional fabric is to prefer). Don’t show too much skin. Those bra and leggings outfits are reserved for sports models at shootings!
  • no slurred clothes
  • try to look sporty. I don’t understand how people come to a gym with those trainers, which you wear on your couch on sundays.
  • you don’t have to go with labels. H&M, ZARA, Esprit, Mango and others offer good alternatives
  • clean running / workout shoes
  • bring a fresh towel

Favorite snack option

Hello, hi and welcome!

 

I needed a little more inspiration time then I thought. Sorry for that! But this post is about something I really believe in.
Do you have this nasty little cravings about 4 to 5 pm? Do you reach for an apple and don’t feel satisfied? Well, than you’re on the same point I WAS.
About the time I mentioned I often feel empty, slightly hungry and idly. Fruits are healthy and contain a small amount of calories I thought. I choose to eat an apple, a kiwi… But I wondered, why I still felt hungry and not satisfied. So I asked a nutrition consultant, what she suggests to do against these nasty cravings, which makes at least me pretty grumpy.

She had a very simple answer: “Go with those Chiefs protein drink. You get them in Coop (a supermarket in Switzerland). They have no fat and are a good source for protein.”

Aha! But I’m very picky when it comes to drinks and their tastes. Urgh, I tried a lot of bad protein shakes and other beverages. But I stayed optimistic and bought a chocolate Chief and one with the flavor of mango. I tried them both. Chocolate didnt tickle my palate, but the mango-flavored Chief was tasty!

“Protein is good for our muscles, it keeps your insulin at a average level and it prevent binge eatings”, the consultant explained to me. Well, I knew that stuff before, but wasn’t able to transform the knowledge into a solution for a “problem” in my real life.

Since then I overcome my carvings on afternoons with a few sips or a whole Chiefs protein drink. And since I’m not that hungry at 7 /7.30 pm, I don’t overeat at dinners that often anymore.
Try it yourself! It’s worth it!
